Team India arrives in Colombo without Sai Sudharsan

The Indian cricket team arrived in Colombo on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the two-Test series against Sri Lanka, which begins at the Galle International Stadium on August 15. However, Tamil Nadu batter Sai Sudharsan did not travel with the squad as he continues his recovery from a toe injury.

Sai sustained the injury during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. While the left-hander has resumed batting at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, he has not yet regained full match fitness. As a precaution, the BCCI medical team has advised him to join the squad only after making further progress in his recovery. The BCCI medical staff will continue to monitor his rehabilitation before taking a final call on when he can link up with the Indian team in Sri Lanka.

Tanush Kotian, Harsh Dubey, Vipraj Nigam and Shivang Kumar have travelled with the side to Sri Lanka as net bowlers for the upcoming two-Test series.

Openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal were seen practising in the nets in Mumbai a day before the team’s departure for Colombo. The duo focused on facing spin, with conditions in Galle expected to favour the slower bowlers. They faced a mix of left-arm spinners, leg-spinners and off-spinners from Mumbai’s domestic circuit, including seasoned campaigner Kotian.

India will begin their preparations for the Test series with a three-day practice match at the Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) in Colombo from August 7 to 9. The team is expected to travel to Galle on August 10 or 11 ahead of the opening Test.

The first Test will be played at the Galle International Stadium from August 15, while the second and final Test is scheduled to be held at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo from August 23.
