Former Springbok fullback Percy Montgomery has shared one of his favourite stories from the Bok changeroom, revealing the prank that left current national coach Rassie Erasmus fuming.
Speaking about some of the practical jokes that kept spirits high during his playing career, Montgomery recalled how Erasmus unknowingly became the target after one post-match function.
Erasmus deeply hated fruit due to a texture aversion. Taking advantage of this, his Springbok teammates used to prank him by secretly hiding bananas inside his official team blazer.

“Rassie hates fruit and I remember at an after-function, the okes put fruit in his blazer,” Montgomery said on the Boks Unpacked X The Verdict podcast.
“When he got on the bus, he was the m*er in hey!”
Montgomery also remembered another infamous prankster from his playing days.
“Willie Meyer at Twickenham, during a posh after-match function, put all the knives and forks into okes’ blazers.”
