Mets Lose Mauricio to Fractured Thumb

Ronny Mauricio fractured his left thumb while sliding into first base in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Angels, joining Francisco Lindor on the injured list.

Mauricio suffered the injury in the seventh inning when he dove toward first base to beat the tag, with his thumb breaking upon collision with the base. The Mets have now lost both of their primary shortstops, as Lindor is expected to return from a strained left calf in late May or early June. esporist.org

With Mauricio's fractured thumb expected to take approximately six weeks to heal, Bo Bichette took over for the remainder of Saturday's game. Despite having played 718 games at shortstop in his career, the Mets signed Bichette to play third base. Several Triple-A candidates, including Jackson Cluff, Christian Arroyo and Vidal Bruján, could be called up to fill the shortstop gap.
