'I didn't want to incite it' - Edwards defends not saluting fans
Wolves boss Rob Edwards has defended his decision to not acknowledge the home fans after their draw with Sunderland.
The team were booed off after their 1-1 draw against the Black Cats, who played with 10 men for over an hour following Dan Ballard's red card.
Santi Bueno cancelled out Noni Mukiele's opener, scoring Wolves' first goal in 47 days, but it did not spare the head coach from fan frustration after the final whistle. chickenroadslot.pro
Edwards had previously said he would always recognise supporters after games, regardless of the result, but opted against it at Molineux on Saturday afternoon.
"I was frustrated, but I also thought I didn't want to incite it any more," he explained, with Wolves bottom of the table and already relegated.
"I didn't want to make the ground any more angry, so that was probably why.
"The work we do in the summer and getting off to a good start [next season] will be the important thing.
"I understand the situation at the moment. We have been relegated, we are bottom of the league, we have drawn a game against 10 men, we are just off the back of three defeats in a row.
"There is a lot of anger around and I'm going to take it."
His decision to replace Hugo Bueno with Angel Gomes was also met with jeers, but Edwards explained the situation with the full-back battling a knee injury.
"Hugo did well to get through to the moment he did," Edwards said. "He hasn't trained much all week because of his knee.
"I know there was frustration when he came off, but there was a reason for it and we were trying to get another forward on the pitch.
"He hasn't been fully fit all week, he hasn't trained fully all week, he did great to be out there anyway - but this is my opportunity to explain my reason for it."
Edwards has won five of his 26 games in all competitions since joining from Middlesbrough and replacing Vitor Pereira in November.
"We've got to continue to work hard and stay strong," he added. "We've got three more games where we've got to try to get more results.
"I knew coming in this was going to be really, really challenging. I knew at some stage we were probably going to be in this sort of situation.
"It is weird, you know, why do we put ourselves through it? At times you do think, why do we do it? But it will be all the more rewarding when we're able to turn things around."

Marc Guiu is keen to leave Chelsea this summer, and his preference would be a loan move back to Spain according to reports.

Chelsea signed Guiu for €6m from Barcelona in the summer of 2024, but he’s struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.
The 20-year-old made 16 appearances in all competitions last season, and scored six goals, all of which came in the Conference League.
Marc Guiu wants to return to Spain
A lack of game time saw Guiu loaned to Sunderland last summer, but before the transfer window was closed he was recalled after Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury.
Guiu has really struggled for minutes this season, and before coming off the bench in last month’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton, he’d not featured in the Premier League since December.
The Spain under-21 international was left out of the squad for last weekend’s FA Cup semi final, and has only featured in two of the last 19 Chelsea games.
With Emmanuel Emegha arriving from Strasbourg in the summer, and Nicolas Jackson returning from his loan at Bayern Munich, Guiu has fallen even further down the pecking order.
He’s not going to get the regular minutes he needs at Chelsea next season, and Mundo Deportivo have reported Guiu wants a loan move back to Spain.
The report adds Chelsea feel he should go to a Premier League club to gain experience and show his potential.

The Boston Celtics had never blown a 3-1 series lead in 80 seasons of franchise history. Saturday at TD Garden, they did it, losing 109-100 to the Philadelphia 76ers in a Game 7 without Jayson Tatum, who was ruled out with left knee stiffness hours before tip-off.
Jaylen Brown put up 33 points and nine rebounds carrying the load alone. It wasn't close enough. Joel Embiid finished with 34 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists, and when the game ended, Brown had something to say.
Brown gave credit where he had to, then added something more
"Embiid put a lot of pressure on us," Brown said after the game. "We tried a bunch of different things. He's a big body. He also was flopping around. He got some extra calls and stuff like that, and they rewarded him for that. But that's the league we're in."

“We didn’t really have an answer for him…He's a big body. He also was flopping around. He got some extra calls and stuff like that, and they rewarded him for that. But that's the league that we're in.”

Embiid went 9-for-11 from the free-throw line in Game 7. His 11 attempts led everyone in the building. All three fouls Brown committed personally came in the fourth quarter.
It is worth noting that the Celtics finished the regular season getting to the foul line less than any other team in the NBA, so a free-throw gap was not a surprise waiting to happen.
Brown was also whistled for 10 offensive fouls in the first six games of the series, mostly for using his off-arm to create space as a driver. He wasn't speaking from completely neutral ground, looking at it.

What Tyrese Maxey told Joel Embiid after Jayson Tatum was ruled out
What Tyrese Maxey told Joel Embiid after Jayson Tatum was ruled out originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Philadelphia 76ers beat the Boston Celtics 109-100 in a Game 7 at TD Garden on Saturday, finishing a historic comeback from 3-1 down to advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the New York Knicks.
Tyrese Maxey finished with 30 points, 11 assists, and seven rebounds, and closed the game with back-to-back buckets when Boston had cut the lead to one with under four minutes left.
When Tatum sat out, what was Maxey thinking?
"Once we found out JT was out, honestly we felt that the game was going to be even harder," Maxey said in his postgame press conference. "As soon as I found out, I told Joel it's not going to get easier. It's definitely gonna be harder."

Without Tatum, Joe Mazzulla started three players making their first career playoff starts in a Game 7 situation: Baylor Scheierman, Ron Harper Jr., and Luka Garza. That group went 0-for-7 from the field and scored zero points.
Boston opened the game cold and fell behind 11-4 before its first substitution, but the Celtics eventually cut an 18-point deficit all the way to one in the fourth.
Tatum had averaged 23.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 6.8 assists through six games in the series. His presence stretched Philadelphia's defense and created cleaner reads for Jaylen Brown. Without him, the Celtics ran a tighter, grittier operation with less structure.
Maxey has been the story of this series since Game 5. The Tatum comment just tells how he processes the game when the moment demands it.
