Brock Purdy is the NFC offensive player of the month

The 49ers have dealt with a slew of injuries over the first month of the season, but quarterback Brock Purdy has stayed healthy and he's a big reason why the team is 3-0. sportbet.rodeo

Purdy has gone 60-of-83 for 789 yards, nine touchdowns and an interception so far this season. His nine touchdown passes lead the league and he leads the league in a number of other metrics, including quarterback rating. On top of that, Purdy has not been sacked yet this year.

That production and the 49ers' record made Purdy the NFL's choice for the NFC offensive player of the month for September.

Purdy was also the NFC offensive player of the week in Week 2, but this is the first time that he's taken the monthly prize.

Report: Joey Porter Jr. trade has a term that protects against an ongoing hold-in

In trading for former Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr., the Cowboys are taking a leap of faith that Porter will play without a new contract.

The Cowboys have some protection against the possibility of Porter not playing.

Via Todd Archer of ESPN, the 2027 sixth-round pick is tied to Porter being on the gameday roster for at least two games before that selection goes through.

While the second-round pick in 2028 isn't attached to that caveat, the Cowboys would be in line for a 2028 third-round compensatory pick if Porter leaves as a free agent in March.

If Porter immediately suits up for Sunday's game against the Texans, the term most likely will be satisfied. If, for some reason, the "back" and "conditioning" issues linger, the Cowboys will keep their 2027 sixth-round pick.

Giants S Jevon Holland named the NFC defensive player of the month

The Giants wrapped up a 12-7 win over the Titans last Sunday when safety Jevon Holland intercepted a pass in the end zone and the play also wrapped up a stellar month for Holland.

Holland had an interception in each of the three games that the Giants played in September, which has already given him a career high for a single season. Holland was also credited with 12 tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery while helping the team to a 2-1 start to the year.

On Thursday, the NFL recognized Holland's effort by naming him the NFC's defensive player of the month for September.

Holland will try to add to his exploits against the Cardinals this Sunday and the Giants will take all that he can give after losing quarterback Jaxson Dart and linebacker Brian Burns to season-ending knee injuries over the last couple of weeks.

UConn, 2025-2026 Player Of The Year Sarah Strong Top Big East Preseason Polls

UConn was in its familiar place — atop the preseason poll in the Big East. The Huskies have won the regular-season conference title 25 times and the Big East Tournament 24, including both each year since UConn returned in 2021. Geno Auriemma's team, which was a unanimous choice, is led by preseason Big East Player of the Year Sarah Strong. The junior won the conference's Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year last season. She was the AP Player of the Year last season. UConn went 38-1, including a perfect 20-0 mark in conference play last season. Villanova was picked second as the Wildcats are coming off their fifth consecutive 20-win season in which they reached the Big East Tournament title game. They are led by Jasmine Bascoe, who averaged 18.9 points and 4.0 rebounds last season. The Wildcats open their season against Notre Dame in Rome as part of the Eternal City Tip-Off. Creighton, St. John's and Seton Hall rounded out the top five. Marquette was sixth with Providence, Georgetown and Xavier next. Butler, led by new head coach Maria Marchesano, and DePaul rounded out the poll. Here are the full Big East rankings: The Big East held its annual media day at a local New York hotel instead of Madison Square Garden, which has hosted the event every year since 2014. The event was presided over by new conference commissioner Tim Brosnan, who took over for Val Ackerman. Ackerman, who was the head of the conference from 2013-26, retired at the end of August. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
